Making an Impact

Our Programs

Little STEM Library runs targeted programs to ensure STEM books reach the communities that need them most.

🏫

School Partnerships Program

We place Little STEM Library boxes on school campuses — in hallways, courtyards, and libraries — and stock them with curriculum-aligned science and math books for students to borrow, take home, and keep.

Our school partnership program operates in 1,200+ schools across 44 states, with a focus on Title I schools where students have limited access to books outside the classroom. We work with school STEM coordinators to select titles that connect to what students are learning in class.

Each participating school receives: one installed library box, an initial stock of 50 books, access to our quarterly book-refill program, and a free professional development workshop for STEM teachers.

Girls in STEM Collection

Research shows that girls are equally capable in STEM subjects but often lose interest between ages 10–14 — largely due to a lack of relatable role models. Our Girls in STEM collection puts books featuring brilliant women scientists, engineers, mathematicians, and technologists front and center.

The collection includes biographies, fiction featuring STEM protagonists, career guides, and hands-on activity books — all featuring women and girls in leading roles. Every Little STEM Library in our network receives a Girls in STEM starter pack of 15 curated titles.

We partner with publishers to ensure 40% of all books donated through our programs feature women as primary characters or authors.

Rural Reach Program

Thirty million Americans live more than 30 miles from the nearest bookstore. Many live in communities where the school library is the only source of free books — and even those are underfunded. Rural Reach places Little STEM Libraries in small towns, farming communities, Indigenous reservations, and rural health clinics across America.

We provide free library boxes, charter signs, and three years of book restocking support to eligible communities. Rural Reach libraries are maintained by local volunteers, with quarterly check-ins and book donations from our central warehouse.

So far, Rural Reach has placed 840 libraries in 38 states serving communities with populations under 5,000.

Makers Program

Our Makers Program connects makerspaces, fab labs, woodshops, and engineering clubs with communities that need library boxes. Makers build custom, creative STEM library boxes — often themed around their local community, a scientific concept, or a beloved landmark — and donate them to registered stewards in their area.

Participating makerspaces receive: official partnership recognition, access to our standard and custom building plans in DXF/SVG/PDF format, priority on book donations for their area, and recognition on our website and app.

Join over 320 makerspaces worldwide that have donated a combined 1,800 library boxes through this program.
